Passkey Authentication
Set up passwordless sign-in with passkeys for faster, more secure access.
What Are Passkeys?
Passkeys are a modern, passwordless way to sign in to your WEIR account. Instead of typing a password or waiting for an email code, you authenticate using your device's built-in security features like Face ID, Touch ID, or Windows Hello.
Passkeys are more secure than passwords because they can't be phished, reused, or stolen in data breaches.
Benefits of Passkeys
- Faster Sign-In: One tap or glance instead of email codes
- More Secure: Resistant to phishing and data breaches
- Biometric Protected: Uses your fingerprint or face to verify you
- Device-Bound: Stays on your device, never shared
Setting Up a Passkey
You can set up a passkey during account creation or add one later:
During Sign-Up
- Complete the email verification step
- When prompted to "Set up passkey for faster sign-in," click Continue
- Your browser will prompt you to create a passkey
- Use Face ID, Touch ID, or your device PIN to confirm
- Your passkey is now registered
After Sign-Up
- Go to Settings → Security
- Find the "Passkeys" section
- Click "Add Passkey"
- Follow your browser's prompts to create the passkey
- Give your passkey a memorable name (e.g., "MacBook Pro")
Tip: You can register multiple passkeys from different devices for convenient access anywhere.
Signing In with a Passkey
- Go to the WEIR sign-in page
- Enter your email address
- If a passkey is available, you'll see "Sign in with passkey"
- Click it and authenticate with your biometric
- You're signed in instantly
Note: If your device doesn't have your passkey, you can still sign in using the email magic link as a fallback.
Device & Browser Requirements
Passkeys work on modern devices and browsers that support WebAuthn:
- Apple: Safari on macOS Ventura+ or iOS 16+ with Face ID/Touch ID
- Android: Chrome on Android 9+ with fingerprint or screen lock
- Windows: Edge or Chrome on Windows 10+ with Windows Hello
- Cross-device: Some browsers support using your phone to authenticate on desktop
Older browsers or devices without biometric capabilities may not support passkeys. You can always use email sign-in as a fallback.
Managing Your Passkeys
View and manage registered passkeys in Settings → Security:
- View: See all registered passkeys with device names and creation dates
- Rename: Update passkey names for easier identification
- Remove: Delete passkeys you no longer need or from lost devices
Lost Device?
If you lose a device with a passkey, sign in via email on another device and remove the lost device's passkey from your security settings.
Troubleshooting
"Passkey not available" error
Your browser may not support passkeys, or your device lacks biometric hardware. Try updating your browser or using email sign-in.
Passkey creation fails
Ensure your device's biometric system is set up and working. On iPhone, check that Face ID/Touch ID is enabled. On Mac, verify Touch ID is configured in System Settings.
Can't find my passkey on a new device
Passkeys are device-specific unless synced via iCloud Keychain (Apple) or Google Password Manager (Android). Register a new passkey on each device you use.
